Diamond Geezer

So what if it was the one year in ages that I wasn't in Paris for the finish...the TV coverage was fantastic, and I grinned my head off as the skinny man in yellow began his victory speech with the immortal words "ladies and gentlemen, we're just going to draw the raffle"... I'm not a great one for heroes but if I was going to take one, he'd tick most of the boxes. Chapeau, Brad.

  1. Gets my vote as well. Watched the last stage which frankly was as boring as hell until the last couple of laps but when he hit the front to pull Cavendish along there was a sense in me off "this is something special" and it was too. Unpretentious guys all three ie. Frome and Cavendish as well - Cavendish more interested in cuddling his daughter than giving an interview. Gentlemen my hat is indeed doffed to you - absolutely brilliant. Bit like 1966 people will say "Where were you when..." that day I was on Herne Bay beach with my Dad listening on the radio - before we had telly and Dad was on holiday so why not? I just remember it - well Dad jumping up and down I was nearly 4 then!

    1. Oh just one other thing - who's idea was Lesley Garrett to sing the national anthem... give me strength! She can sing but the woman is the biggest self-publicist ever luckily despite her efforts I was pleased the cameras stayed on the man(men) who'd really achieved something.

  2. Did he really say that? Kudos to him.

I was listening to the Test Match yesterday and a long big cheer and round of applause broke out as soon as the news came through. Very pleased for him.

  3. I live in a bit of a bubble when it comes to sporty stuff (sport? what's that?) - but even I didn't miss out on the news about town that he's the first Englishman to win it and (this is the bit that really caught my attention, whatever that says) - he's a Mod!
    Good for him!

  4. He's a gentleman mod with a bone-dry sense of humour, who loves his missis and his kids. What more could you want? And I speak as one who has no expectations of 'sporting personalities' in general, and who is indifferent to most actual sports. Cycling captured my heart in 1988 and has had it ever since.

But as for Lesley Garrett...lord save us. What an embarrassment. F-Ron, you are so right.
